Summer at Rose Island written by the very talented Holly Martin is for me very easy to recommend. This for me was another wonderful visit to White Cliff Bay where we meet old friends and new , for this brilliant read the main character is Darcy as she swims into the life of the one man who is going to turn her life upside down.Darcy was returning to the one town where she was happiest but this visit will turn up a few ghosts from her past. Darcy is a qualified Marine Biologist and her love for the sea is evident, Riley the American man who she meets in the most unexpected way, she actually swims into his life and for her this swim will take her to protect his lighthouse home from being demolished by the council as she sees not only the beauty of Rose Island, where Riley ancestors have owned from over a century before.Why I loved this book is mainly because Holly Martin has a gift not only for wonderful, cosy story writing but she has a way of developing a story where I personally cared for the area as well as the characters who were so unique in their own wonderful and sometimes eccentric ways.Old friends pop up from the previous two books which I also loved, and it was great to see how they were getting on now life had taken them on their own journeys through White Cliff Bay when it worked it;s own magic upon them and changed their own lives.I am happy to recommend this marvellous read and the audio version was also extra special as the narrator Emma Newman had a voice of silk and her way with accents brought an extra dimension into the story. This is one book which will be going on its own journey as it is the perfect book for holidays at home and abroad.Summer at Rose Island written by Holly Martin is a wonderful, warm and very engaging read which I am happy to recommend to all readers of modern day fiction which is laced with a lot of warm, gooey moments which only love can control.

Having recently discovered Holly Martin, I was looking forward to diving into another of her series and Summer at Rose Island was the ideal read to settle into the hotter-than-Hawaii-UK-heatwave with. I haven't read the first two books in the White Cliff Bay series, but that wasn't a problem and with quirky characters in a beautiful setting it was an enjoyable trip."Being with you is going to get me in a whole heap load of trouble, isn’t it?"Centralising around saving the islands lighthouse, we have marine biologist, Darcy who has escaped the mainland and her overbearing, thoughtless parents, and Riley; lighthouse keeper, lyricist, American and a bit of a hermit."I’m weird too, so we can be weird together."I'm a bit partial to a reclusive man and Riley is that. He and Darcy have an immediate pull towards one another and as they get to know each other they bring everything from fight to fun, sweet to sexy. I have to admit there were parts that seemed a little on the saccharine side but I still appreciated how they wore their hearts on their sleeves as simmering away is the reality that if the lighthouse isn't saved, Riley loses his home and return to the US beckons."If I had to choose between keeping you in my life or saving the lighthouse, I’d choose you without any hesitation."Once again Holly Martin has created an entire cast of characters who were easy to love and who I plan on spending more time with once we get in to the festive period. George and Libby, and Penny and Henry are already on the kindle waiting for me.

You know that feeling of contentment when you return home having been away for a little while? That’s what it felt like to pick up Summer at Rose Island, the third book in Holly Martin’s White Cliff Bay series.All the familiar characters from the previous books make an appearance and it’s like catching up with old friends (although you don’t need to have read the others to appreciate this latest novel). Then there is the place itself, which always inspires me to open up rightmove to see if we can afford a home by the sea (we can’t).This time we get to meet two new characters – Riley and Darcy – and they are every bit as likeable and engaging as the others.I love (and envy) Holly’s style of writing, it’s a pleasure to read. This novel feels rich in detail -although you never really notice it because the story flows so well. Her characters always seem real and, as such, are easy to care about. I stayed up way too late reading it because I needed to know what happened.It is clear almost from the start that Darcy is eventually going to have to pick sides and we discover along the way the reasons why it’s going to be hard for her to make a choice. Both characters are vulnerable because of the past but, naturally, love eventually helps win the day.Holly sets everything up to create a sweet, lively and funny read, perfect for the beach (or even a cold May night cuddled under your duvet).
