Comics. Manga. Stir over a hot stove for five minutes.

After buying the book and reading through it a few times - along with making use of it in the intended fashion - I have to say it is distinctly... Okay.It does focus on one art style, which automatically makes it either terrible or amazing depending on what you wanted to get out of it. What actually annoys me more is the author and his chosen words when describing the images within the book.A lot of his comments are not without merit - though the little 'straightened leg' followed by an arrow pointing to a - shock, horror - straightened leg seems a little bit like he's writing for beginners in a book that shows via all its' other content that it isn't the place to start learning to draw.Another thing I found slightly insulting to the ol' open-mindedness was the constant inclusion of the supposed 'fact' that Fusion was Manga-flavoured 'American' comics. With all due respect to the fair number of good things to come from America before and since the release of this book, drawing comics is an occupation - a job you can get almost anywhere if you have skill and enough determination to keep throwing art at the right people. Labelling it as an American property does anything but endear me further to the book and its' contents.In conclusion - if you can draw a little and you like a pointer or two, this isn't a bad place to look for it and it's relatively cheap now. As pointers to the author, though - a little less over doing the patriotism and you'll finda lot less of your fan base constantly frustrated with you.
